Loving Conflict Practice Group - Mid Summer Start
In partnership with Coming Home Healing, Mekdela Maskal is offering an 18 week Loving Conflict practice group. Beginning in late July, both virtual and in person in Nevada City and Grass Valley.
Pigment and Prayer Workshop at Wolf Craft School
June 28th 10am-1pm In the first half of the workshop we will learn about humankind's oldest art material–earth color–by exploring their sources, cultural implications, and uses. In addition to digging into these stories, we will discuss how we relate to color and earth. In the second half of the workshop we will turn rock into paint and end our time exploring with them on paper.
Textile Installation with California Heritage Indigeneous Research Project
This spring, CHIRP's Tribal Arts Enrichment Project continues to bring Nisenan artistry to life, fostering Cultural expression and Tribal wellbeing at Yulića, the heart of the Homeland Return campaign.
Through workshops in drawing, painting, textile dyeing, and more, Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribal Members are reclaiming stories, deepening connections, and revitalizing Nisenan Culture. Mekdela Maskal will be facilitating a workshop on identity mapping and memory through natural pigments and textile dying at Yulića. Partcipants will work together on a large scale installation for an exhibit opening at Uba Seo in Fall 2025.
